Praying Through the Tabernacle Prayer Guide
God instituted the Old Testament Tabernacle as means of approaching His throne through worship and sacrifice. This tabernacle was the pattern for the Temple in Jerusalem and also reflects the architecture of heaven in the New Testament book of Revelation. This is an outline used for approaching God though worship and praise in prayer. Every article of the Tabernacle will serve to inspire you to pray and thus to bring you closer to God and His glory!
Psalm 89:15-16 (NLT)
Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship,

1st- The Laver
The Priests began their ministry in the Tabernacle at the laver filled with clean water.
Exodus 30:18-21(NLT)18 “Make a bronze washbasin with a bronze stand. Place it between the Tabernacle and the altar, and fill it with water. 19 Aaron and his sons will wash their hands and feet there. 20 They must wash with water whenever they go into the Tabernacle to appear before the LORD and when they approach the altar to burn up their special gifts to the LORD—or they will die! 21 They must always wash their hands and feet, or they will die. This is a permanent law for Aaron and his descendants, to be observed from generation to generation.”
The Laver stood between the Altar and the Tabernacle
The Laver demonstrates for us the need of daily cleansing from sin and the contamination of the world in which we live. This daily cleansing prepares us to enter into His glorious presence.
As we prepare to enter the Presence of God we should CONFESS our sins as a means of cleansing.
1 John 1:9 (NLT)9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. 25 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed? 26 If anyone is ashamed of me and my message, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in his glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.

2nd-The Altar of Sacrifice
The Altar of Sacrifice represents for us The Cross of Jesus Christ. The blood was shed and poured out at the altar. The life of our substitute was given at the altar. When we come to the altar our hearts are overwhelmed with praise, thanksgiving, and a spirit of worship because of what God the Father has given for us in Jesus.
At the Altar we should PRAISE THE LORD for the blood of Jesus Christ shed for our redemption: Christ’s blood grants access to the Holy Place in heaven.

At the Altar we should also GIVE THANKS unto the Lord for just as the priests of the Old Testament offered sacrifices at the Altar, Jesus Christ offered HIMSELF as the complete and total fulfillment of the sacrificial system.
Thank the Father for Jesus dying on the Cross for YOU. He died in YOUR PLACE as a Burnt offering for you.

Thank the Father that Jesus fulfilled the Fellowship Offering(traditionally the Peace Offering) by uniting all people as one in Himself.

3rd-The Table of the Bread of the Presence. Now we have entered into the Holy Place within the Tabernacle. The first article of furniture we see is the Table with the Bread of the Presence which represents God’s presence with us through His covenant. The Bread itself is symbolic of God’s provision in our lives. In order to have God’s provision in our lives we must do three things:
1.Seek His will in our lives above all else.

2.Sow of our financial resources into His Kingdom.

3. Ask the Father to supply our needs

The Twelve Loaves on the Table represented the Twelve Tribes of the Israelites. In the same way these loaves remind us of God’s people. Therefore this is the time to pray for God’s blessing to be poured into their lives. In Deuteronomy 28:1-14 we find some of the many ways God has promised to bless his people as they obey him.

4th-The Candlestick
In Light of the Candlestick we see the work of the Holy Spirit. According to Isaiah 11:2 and Revelation 4:5 the Holy Spirit is a seven-fold manifestation of God.

At the Candlestick we should pray for:
-The Holy Spirit to rest upon us.
The Holy Spirit to work in us His Wisdom, His Understanding, His counsel, His Might, His Knowledge, and His Fear of the Lord.
-The Holy Spirit to reveal more and more of Jesus everyday.

5th-The Altar of Incense
As we proceed closer to the Holy of Holies we find the Altar of Incense. The symbolism of this Altar is best seen in the book of Revelation:

Thus we can see that the Altar of Incense represents the offering of our prayers and requests to God. As such we are now ready to intercede for the urgent and pressing needs in our lives and in the Body of Christ.
Let us come boldly before God in faith, believing that with Him all things are possible.

6th-The Holy of Holies-Ministering Before the Ark of God
The goal of all prayer should be that we come into the very presence of God.
As we have prayed our way into the Holy of Holies it is important again to realize that it is only through the blood of Jesus that we, his people, can enter in.
Hebrews 10:19 (NLT) A Call to Persevere 19 And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus.
Three things should happen as we stand before His throne.
1st-We should come before Him with praise and thanksgiving. In the Old Testament during the dedication of the Temple a praise was sung to God and is recorded in 2 Chronicles 5:13. 2 Chronicles 5:13 (NLT) 13 The trumpeters and singers performed together in unison to praise and give thanks to the Lord. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals, and other instruments, they raised their voices and praised the Lord with these words: “He is good! His faithful love endures forever!” At that moment a thick cloud filled the Temple of the Lord.
David’s “Psalm of Thanks” are found in many places throughout the Psalms and are appreciate words to be spoken in the presence of the King of Kings and Lord of Lord. 1 Chronicles 16:34 (NLT) 34 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.
2nd-We should come before the Lord in silent meditation, allowing Him to speak to us and to minister His peace and joy. God is able to speak during any of our prayer time, but we should become especially attentive here. Acknowledge His presence, meditate upon His goodness, and delight yourself in the Lord!
Finally-we can expect that as we enter into His Presence that He causes us to become vessels of His glory, Temples of His Holy Spirit. Jesus taught in John 15:4-6 (NLT) 4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. 5 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. 6 Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned.
The Key to maintaining the Spirit’s presence in our lives is to remain in Jesus! If we do not abide in Him we will be cut off and cast aside. Paul tells us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. But what is the key to remaining full of His Presence. It is the consistent entering of His presence, coming before the Ark that fills us.
2 Corinthians 3:18 (NLT) 18 So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.
We must come before Him and allow His presence to empower us for ministry, to enlighten our hearts and renew our minds–to provide strength to the inner man. But enter in we must. We must not allow anything or anyone to keep us from His presence. Press in! God desires to have a time of great intimacy with you. Press in, having the blood of Jesus as your invitation. Press in and stay in the Glorious Presence of God!
