What comes to mind when you hear the words “Precious Moments”? Is it the birth of your children, the first time your grandchild calls you by name, a wedding proposal or is it the teardrop-eyed figurines that we all know and love? I know the list could go on and on.
But for the Lord, (Psalm 116:15) a Psalm of David, says “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.” In the past several months with the passing of several dear friends and loved ones from ages 6 days to 96 years, our Lord has had some “Precious Moments.”
While pondering on these dear lives, I could not help but think about Linda Ellis’ poem, ”The Dash,” where she uses a metaphor, comparing a life, to the -dash- between the birth date and date of death on a person’s tombstone. If that is a “Precious Moment” in the sight of our Lord, just listen to what He says about your -dash- (Psalm 139:17) says, “How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.They cannot be numbered!”
Isn’t that wonderful? His precious thoughts about you cannot be number and they began even before anyone could see your -dash- for verse 16 says “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.”verse 13 says “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.” What a Precious Moment” that must have been to the Lord. So doesn’t that tell you of His great love for you personally, and that God never leaves you in you -dash- nor forsakes you. (Deuteronomy 31:8) “And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.”
Oh, what a wonderful loving God, do you see how valuable you are to Him and how precious His thoughts are of you every day of your life?
Now take a few moments to stop and think about a few “Precious Moments” or precious thoughts you have experienced in your life with your Lord?
Maybe your thinking about the “Precious Moment” you put your faith in the Cross of the Lord Jesus Christ, believing that He paid a high price for you, His very life for yours. No more guilt or shame, but having your sins covered in His precious blood.
Perhaps it was also the moment you were baptized in water representing your old life buried with Christ and raise with Him to walk in new life with Him. Oh, what a “Precious Moment”.
And still another “Precious Moment” when you received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues as on the day of Pentecost. Oh, the joy of hungering and thirsting after Him and receiving His sweet Gift, the Holy Spirit!
Maybe you’re thinking of times of refreshing sitting at His feet with His open Word before you. Feasting on the Bread of Life. Or just a whisper from the Lord to “Fear Not for I am with you.”
The list could go on and on especially about our Lord, but nothing compares to His “Precious Moments and thoughts” of His dear children.
So why don’t you pause right now and give Him praise for today and make another “Precious Moment!”
